Jens Bang: My life in EAST AFRICA with Carl Bro (2022)
When I arrived with my family in Dar es Salaam in 1970, I had no idea that we were going to spend the next forty-nine years in Africa. However, that is what happened and I do not regret one single moment of it, because I think I have had a very interesting and exciting life there. Never a dull moment. After four years assignment as the manager of the Tanzania office of the Anglo/Danish consulting engineering firm, Carl Bro Roughton & Partners I was offered the position in Nairobi, Kenya as the East African Area manager, now for the Danish company Carl Bro. The Danish partners had in 1974 bought out the British partners of the offices in the three countries, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. I was to hold this position for the next twenty-one years until I retired from management in 1994. For the next ten years until 2004 I worked for Carl Bro International as a consultant still based in Nairobi, but now covering most of the countries in the vast Eastern Africa region from Eritrea, Ethiopia and Somalia in the North to Zambia and Malawi in the South. In 2004 I retired, but stayed on in Kenya for another fifteen years until my wife and I finally moved to our farm in Denmark in 2019.
